WhatToDrink 1.0 · iPhone, iOS 17 and later

Write to cocktails@biks.io. One person reads that address, so an answer usually takes a day or two rather than an hour.

If something is broken, the useful things to include are what you tapped, what happened instead, your iOS version and the app version from Settings → About. A screenshot is worth more than a description.

Do I need an account?

No. The whole catalog is built into the app. Browsing, searching, filtering, switching measures and saving favourites all work with no account and no network.

An account exists for one thing: writing your own recipes and having them appear on your other devices. Nothing else about the app changes when you sign in.

Ounces or millilitres

Settings → Measures. Amounts are stored the way the recipe was written and converted for display, so switching back and forth never rounds a recipe away. A bartender's ounce is 30 ml here, not 29.57 — that is the number people actually pour.

The app works with no signal

By design. The catalog ships inside the download rather than being fetched, so the app opens instantly in a basement bar. It checks for a catalog update when it launches; if that check fails, nothing about the app stops working.

Recipes you write while offline are saved on the device and sent up the next time it has a connection.

I forgot my password

Use Forgot password on the sign-in screen, or go straight to cocktails.biks.io/login. A reset link arrives by email and is good for a short time; if it has expired, ask for another.

If the email does not turn up, check the spam folder first — it comes from a small sending domain and filters are unkind to those.

Deleting your account

Settings → Delete account, then type DELETE to confirm. Every recipe you wrote, every favourite and your sign-in are removed from the server. It cannot be undone and there is no copy to restore from.

The app keeps working afterwards, with the built-in catalog, exactly as it did before you ever signed in.

If you cannot reach the app — a lost phone, for instance — write to cocktails@biks.io from the address the account uses and it will be deleted for you.

A recipe looks wrong

Tell me. The catalog is assembled by hand and some of it is adapted from books and bar practice that disagree with each other, so corrections are welcome and specifics help: the drink, what it says, and what you think it should say.

You can also just fix it for yourself — write your own version and it is yours, private to your account and never added to the shared catalog.

Privacy and data

There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. The privacy policy lists every place your data lives and what removes it. The terms of use are short and worth the two minutes.

Please drink responsibly

The app is a reference for people old enough to drink legally where they live. Know your measures, and never serve anyone who is driving.
